Keighley Trip, 9th May 2019
Lawrence Bland
On a cool, damp day, we caught the 1045 train from Lancaster to Keighley. We caught the 622 ‘Shuttle’ bus to Sandbeds, to the Airedale Heifer, the home of the Bridgehouse Brewery. We sampled four of the range available, the Teguila Blonde (interesting!), Blonde, Aired Ale (my favourite) & the Porter. Back by bus to Keighley, this is my first visit to the town, only having changed trains to travel on the steam railway in the past. Timothy Taylor brew in the town, and the there are plenty of their traditional pubs here, with some excellent ones serving a nice range of their great beers. Jenny Baker, the social secretary for the Keighley & Craven CAMRA Branch had nominated the top ten pubs and their mapped out locations, which was very helpful. We started at the Boltmakers Arms, with a nice range of Taylor’s beer and warm log fire, the Dark Mild was a nice start to the day. Another Taylor’s pub, the Lord Rodney, a GBG pub, we had the Knowle Spring, a golden ale. Almost next door was the Red Pig, a free house, and a Fuggle Bunny Chapter 5 Oh Crumbs. Next port of call was the friendly Percy Vear’s Real Ale House, and a Saltaire Blonde. We finished at the Brown Cow, another GBG pub, with an excellent range of beers. We sampled the Acorn Barnsley Bitter, Blue Bee 5 Hops and a Stod Fold Dark. Back on the 1752 train to Lancaster.
